INTRODUCING

Video Player

A video player for Elementor with a custom skin, poster image and controls you style — none of the default player chrome.

MARLOW YARD

Short courses, two evenings a week

A yard behind the park gates. Six benches, one tutor, and a course that finishes when the thing you came to make is finished.

CANDLE MAKING

Poured, blended and wicked by you

Three hours, two vessels and a fragrance you mix yourself. The film runs an evening in four steps, so you know what you are booking before you book it.

  • 0:00 Melt the wax
  • 0:02 Blend the fragrance
  • 0:05 Set the wick
  • 0:07 Pour and cure
WHAT YOU TAKE HOME

Two poured candles in reusable glass, the fragrance card you blended from, and enough wick and wax to do a third one at home.

COOKERY, EVENING ONE

Knife skills, in four cuts

The first evening is a board, a knife and a box of vegetables. The chapters are marked, so you can go straight back to the cut you keep getting wrong.

  • Into
  • Cucumber
  • Capsicum
  • Tomato
  • mushroom
  • Finish
FINDING US

Ten minutes from the station, through the park

The gate is on the north path, past the wooden kiosk. On foot it is ten minutes from the station; the 12 and the 41 both stop at the top of the avenue.

ONE THURSDAY IN OCTOBER

An evening in the yard, end to end

Filmed across a single session, uncut at the edges. Nobody in it had made a candle before that night, which is rather the point.

FILM NIGHT

Last Friday of the month, on the back wall

We hang a sheet, put the projector on a crate and run something short. Free, no booking, bring a chair. Scroll on and the trailer comes with you.

THE ROOM

What it looks like when it is full

Twelve benches, one long table and a sink at either end. If you are booking the yard for a group, this is the room you get, and twelve is the ceiling.

THE WHOLE EVENING

Six steps, and you can start at any of them

Every stage of the night as its own card. Pick the one you want to see again rather than dragging along the bar looking for it.

  • 0:00 Prep the bench
  • 0:01 Melt
  • 0:03 Blend
  • 0:05 Wick
  • 0:06 Pour
  • 0:08 Label and take home

Can I use a custom-styled video player in Elementor?

Yes — the Video Player widget in Sky Addons for Elementor replaces the default player chrome entirely. It takes a YouTube or Vimeo link, a file from your media library, or a direct MP4, WebM or Ogg URL, and every part of the control bar — icons, progress track, handle, tooltips and the settings menu — is a styling control.

Does the video player load YouTube before someone clicks play?

No, not with Lazy Load on, which is the default. Until the visitor clicks, the page shows only the poster image: no iframe, no provider script and no video data is requested. Turning on Autoplay or Play On Viewport necessarily overrides that, since both have to load the video to start it.

Can the video autoplay, and will it have sound?

It can autoplay, but only muted — browsers block autoplay with sound, so the widget mutes to make it work. Play On Viewport is the gentler option: playback starts when the player scrolls into view rather than on page load. A default volume slider sets the level for everything a visitor unmutes.

Does embedding YouTube here set cookies on my visitors?

Privacy Mode is on by default, which serves YouTube through youtube-nocookie.com and asks Vimeo not to track. Combined with Lazy Load, also on by default, a visitor who never presses play never contacts the video provider at all — which is the behaviour most cookie-consent policies are actually asking for.

Can I add chapters to a video in Elementor?

Yes. Build them in a chapter list, or paste the same timestamp block you already have in a YouTube description — one chapter per line, time first. Chapters split the seek bar into one segment per section, or show as tick markers, and the current chapter name can sit on the video permanently or with the controls.

Can the seek bar show a preview frame on hover?

Yes, for self-hosted video. The widget decodes real frames out of the file to build both the seek-bar preview and chapter thumbnails. YouTube and Vimeo cannot do it — their frames sit inside a cross-origin iframe. Setting frame capture to run on first play rather than on scroll keeps Lazy Load honest.

Can the video keep playing while visitors scroll down?

Yes — switch on the sticky player and, once it is playing and scrolls out of view, it shrinks into a page corner. You pick which of the four corners, its width, its distance from the edges, and whether it carries a close button so someone can dismiss it.

Does this widget add video schema for Google?

It can. Switching on VideoObject schema outputs JSON-LD describing the video, but only once a title, a poster image and an upload date are all filled in — Google rejects a VideoObject missing any of them, so the widget prints nothing rather than printing something invalid.

Can I set a custom aspect ratio for the video?

Yes. Presets cover 16:9, 4:3, 21:9, 1:1 and 9:16, and a Custom option accepts any ratio written as width and height with a colon, such as 5:2. A Fit control decides whether the poster and self-hosted footage letterbox or crop inside that frame; YouTube and Vimeo letterbox inside their own player regardless.

Do keyboard shortcuts work on the video player?

Yes. By default they apply once the player has focus, and a Global Keyboard Shortcuts switch extends them to the whole page — leave that off when a page has more than one player, or they will fight. The arrow-key seek step is adjustable and starts at ten seconds.

Can I add subtitles to a self-hosted video?

Not through this widget. The captions button and its styling controls are there, and they work for YouTube and Vimeo, which serve their own caption tracks. A self-hosted file has no field for attaching a subtitle file, so host that video on a provider if captions are a requirement.

Does the Video Player widget need Elementor Pro?

No, and it does not need Sky Addons Pro either — the Video Player is part of the free Sky Addons plugin and works on free Elementor with any theme. Its player library and stylesheet are registered against the widget, so they load only on pages that actually contain a player.
