    Rome, before
    opening hours

We are through the Colosseum gate at 7.10am with an archaeologist who has worked the site for eleven years. By the time the queue reaches the Arch of Constantine we are eating breakfast in Monti.

The rest of the week is deliberately unhurried: three neighbourhoods, one day trip to Ostia by train, and a long Thursday with nothing planned at all.

    INDIA · 11 DAYS · MAX 12

    Agra, Orchha,
    and the long way round

Eleven days on the Delhi–Jhansi line with two nights in a place most itineraries skip entirely. You will see the Taj at sunrise, and then you will spend four days somewhere with no ticket queue at all.

“I have done the big-bus version of this trip and it was the same six photographs as everyone else. This one had an afternoon where our guide simply took us to her aunt’s house in Orchha for tea. That is the bit I still talk about.”

      01 — BEFORE YOU GO

      A guide rings you
      about six weeks out

Not a call centre and not a form. The person who will actually be walking with you calls to ask how much altitude you have done, what your knees are like, and whether you would rather share a room or not.

      THE FIRST FORTY DAYS

If any of that slips, we credit £100 against the trip. It has happened twice.

      02 — ON THE TRAIL

      Nobody hands you
      a laminated schedule

There is a route and there are two fixed points a day: where we sleep and when we eat. Everything between those is decided by the group over breakfast, which is how you end up in an aunt’s kitchen in Orchha.

      4% of every booking

Split between the Sacred Valley porters’ welfare fund and a rail-restoration trust in Jhansi. We publish the figure every January and it is audited.

03 — WHEN YOU ARE HOME

      The photographs
      turn up in March

One of the guides shoots the whole trip on film. Six to ten weeks later a link arrives with two hundred frames, no watermarks, and no request to tag anyone.

THE PEOPLE YOU ACTUALLY TRAVEL WITH

Fourteen guides, all on the payroll

No freelancers booked a fortnight out. Everyone who walks with you is employed by Meridian, paid through the off-season, and has done the route at least four times.

        BEFORE YOU ASK

The five questions we get every week

If yours is not here, Elena answers the inbox herself on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

For Peru and China: comfortable walking six hours with a day pack, on consecutive days. Rome and Agra are gentler — three to four hours, mostly flat, with a long lunch in the middle. Your guide asks about this on the call, and nobody has ever been talked into the wrong trip.

Roughly four in ten of our travellers book alone, so you will not be. There is no single supplement on the Inca Trail or Jinshanling because you are in a tent either way; on the lodge-based journeys it is £280–£340 if you want your own room, and nothing if you are happy to share.

No, and deliberately. We book every rail leg, transfer and internal flight once you are there, but long-haul is left to you so you can use points, fly from a different city, or add a fortnight either side. We will tell you which arrival slot works.

One free swap up to 60 days out, to any departure in the following twelve months. Inside 60 days it is 15% of the trip cost, because the lodges and porters are already committed and they get paid regardless.

Four per cent of every booking, before costs, split between the Sacred Valley porters’ welfare fund and a rail-restoration trust in Jhansi. It is audited and we publish the number and the recipients each January — 2025 was £61,400.

        WHAT TO BRING

        Nine things, and
        none of them technical

The list that arrives in the post is one side of A4. Anything specialised — sleeping bags for Peru, crampons for the Jinshanling ridge in February — we lend you.

There is no single supplement on the camping journeys because you are in a tent either way. On the lodge trips it is £280–£340, or nothing at all if you are happy to share.

        Horizontal Scroll

Straight answers about what this one does, where it fits in a real build, and what it costs you to ship.

        Still stuck?

Read the documentation for this one, or write to us — a human answers inside a business day.

Is Horizontal Scroll a widget or a panel setting?

A widget. Unlike most of the motion features in Sky Addons for Elementor, this one you drag in — you place it in an empty section where the horizontal run should begin, and every section that follows becomes a panel of the sideways strip.

Do I have to rebuild my sections as panels?

No. The Auto source takes the sections that already follow the widget own section and relocates them into the horizontal track at page load. A Section IDs mode is there for picking specific sections by CSS ID instead, each with its own label for the navigation.

What happens on a phone or a narrow screen?

Below 1024 pixels the sections stay exactly where they are and scroll vertically as normal. They are never moved into the track in the first place, so nothing is hidden, nothing is cropped, and a phone visitor reads the same content from top to bottom.

Does it respect the reduce-motion setting?

Yes. If the visitor system asks for reduced motion, the widget leaves every section in normal vertical flow, exactly as it does below 1024 pixels. The same fallback covers the case where GSAP has not loaded, so content is never trapped in a track that will not scroll.

Do I need Elementor Pro for horizontal scrolling?

No. The Horizontal Scroll widget comes with Sky Addons Pro and works on free Elementor sections and containers. GSAP and ScrollTrigger ship with the plugin, so there is no second animation plugin to buy and no custom JavaScript to paste in.

What navigation does it come with?

Dots with optional text labels in three positions, previous and next arrows, a progress bar, an optional completion ring drawn around the Next button, and a live counter reading something like 01 / 05 followed by the active panel title. Each of those is its own switch.

Can the panels snap into place?

Yes, and Snap to Panels is on by default with a Snap Duration of half a second. Scroll Smoothness, from 0.1 to 3, sets how much the strip lags behind the scroll — higher is looser and more cinematic, lower feels tied directly to the wheel.

Can the background colour change between panels?

Yes, through the Background Morph switch. It blends between panel backgrounds as the strip moves, which needs each panel to be transparent and to carry either a solid background colour or a data attribute holding the colour to blend toward.

Can content inside the panels animate as they pass?

Two built-in options. Content Reveal, on by default, rises and fades panel content in as the panel reaches centre. Image Parallax, off by default, drifts images inside the panels for depth as they cross the screen. Both are switches on the widget rather than per-panel settings.

Is the horizontally scrolled content still real page content?

Yes. The widget renders only a host element and an empty track; the panels are your actual Elementor sections, moved into that track by JavaScript at runtime. What a crawler reads is ordinary section markup in ordinary document order, not a duplicate copy of it.
