Background Reveal

Background reveal for Elementor — a section background wipes into view as it scrolls in, instead of simply appearing.

INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE · LONDON & MARGATE

We are the practice you call
when the plan is already wrong

Fold & Warren works on eleven projects a year, most of them buildings somebody else has already started. Two directors, six architects, and a joiner on the payroll because drawings are not furniture.

The client had planning for a box. We kept the permission, moved the kitchen to the garden side and put the stair where the chimney had been. Eleven months, occupied throughout.

HOW A PROJECT RUNS

Five stages, and you can
stop after any of them

Most practices want the whole job or nothing. We will do a two-week feasibility study and hand you the drawings if that is all you need — about a third of our clients never come back, which is fine.

“They talked us out of the extension
we came in asking for, and were right”

We had drawings from another practice and a number we could not afford. Fold & Warren spent the first meeting measuring, the second one saying no, and the third showing us a plan that cost forty per cent less and works better.

WHAT YOU SEE BEFORE YOU COMMIT

The clay model, then the room

Every project gets an untextured model first. It is deliberately joyless — no cushions, no styling — because that is when you can still argue about where a wall goes.

STAGE 2 — CLAY MODEL, WEEK 4

No finishes, no light temperature, no furniture you might not buy. Just volume and sightlines.

STAGE 4 — FINAL VISUAL, WEEK 11

Same camera, same wall positions. If these two do not line up, something changed that you were not told about.

The last one is not a typo. Two clients stopped mid-build for reasons that had nothing to do with us, and we would rather publish it than round it away.

FEES

Published, because you should not have to ask

Fees are quoted against construction cost, not against our hours. If the build gets cheaper so do we, which is the only arrangement that keeps everybody honest.

FEASIBILITY
£2,400
Two weeks, fixed

Measured survey, three options, a written recommendation and the drawings to keep.

FULL SERVICE
9.5%
of construction cost

Feasibility through to the last site visit, with the joiner involved from week four.

ON RETAINER

For developers and repeat clients running more than one site at a time.

A photograph of the room and a rough budget is enough to start. We will tell you within a week whether we are the right practice, and who is if we are not.

Background Reveal

Straight answers about what this one does, where it fits in a real build, and what it costs you to ship.

Still stuck?

Read the documentation for this one, or write to us — a human answers inside a business day.

Where is Background Reveal in the Elementor panel?

On the Style tab of an Elementor Container, directly after the Background section. Sky Addons for Elementor adds it as a control section rather than a widget, so you take a full-width container you have already built and switch the reveal on without touching its contents.

What exactly does it animate?

The container background only. It starts as a centred band — 75 percent of the width by default, adjustable down to 30 — and expands edge to edge as the container scrolls up through the viewport, with the corner radius morphing from its start value to its end value across the same range.

Does the content move while the background expands?

No. The reveal is a clip-path, which is a paint-only operation, so the box, its layout and everything inside it stay exactly where they are. There is no reflow and no jitter — the only thing changing is how much of the background gets painted.

Do I need Elementor Pro for this?

No. Background Reveal is a Sky Addons Pro module that works on free Elementor containers. It uses GSAP and ScrollTrigger, both bundled with the plugin, and those files load only on pages where a container actually has the reveal switched on.

Why is my content being clipped at the edges?

Start Width is narrower than the content sitting inside the container. The clip cuts everything, so keep that starting band wider than your boxed content. The effect is designed for a full-width container with the content held to a narrower column inside it.

Nothing animates in the Elementor editor. Is it broken?

No — it runs on the front end only, and the editor deliberately shows the final expanded state so you can lay the section out normally. Preview or view the published page to watch the band widen. Everything else about the container behaves identically in both places.

Can it keep rounded corners once it has expanded?

Yes. Start Radius and End Radius are separate controls, both from 0 to 100 pixels. The default pairing is 24 down to 0, which lands on a sharp full-bleed edge, but setting End Radius above zero keeps a soft-cornered band at the end of the travel.

Does the reveal reverse when the visitor scrolls back up?

Yes. It is scrubbed to scroll position rather than played as a one-shot animation, so scrolling up narrows the band again cleanly. Smoothness controls how tightly it tracks — 0 locks it to the scroll, and values up to 2 let it glide a little behind.

Can I switch it off on phones?

Disable on Mobile is on by default, and a Disable on Tablet switch is there and off. A narrow screen has very little width difference between a 75 percent band and full bleed, so the effect earns almost nothing there while still costing a scroll listener.

How is this different from Sky Addons Reveal Effects?

Reveal Effects wipes a coloured overlay across an element and then clears it away. Background Reveal has no overlay at all — the container own background grows from a rounded band to full bleed. Use Reveal Effects for a wipe on any element, and this when the section itself should open out.
